  1. Band Introduction

From Collectors Music Reviews:

The final week of Wings’ only tour of the US ended with two shows in San Francisco, one in San Diego, on in Tucson Arizona and three in Los Angeles. Wings Over Frisco documents the first of these dates at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

[…] July 13th is the first show after the massive Seattle show on July 10th which was filmed for their concert movie Rock Show. There is a tremendous amount of excitement and enthusiasm on both sides of the stage, from both the band and audience starting in the build up to “Venus & Mars.” In fact, very rare amateur footage from the second shows shows how excited San Francisco was to hear Wings.

Paul welcomes everyone to their own city San Francisco before “Let Me Roll It.” He seemed to have some kind of difficulty with the greeting on this tour by welcoming the audience to their own city. Nevertheless the show continues with powerful versions of “Medicine Jar” and “Maybe I’m Amazed.”

Lady Madonna” is something “from the mists of time. If there’s anyone here over twelve, they should be alright” Paul assured the crowd. The song is followed by a short reprise of the main theme, a little gag he pulled in these shows.

My Love” is for all the lovers in the Cow Palace, “lovers of cows” Paul quips. The Speed Of Sound set by the end is very well received by the audience. This evening’s performance of “Silly Love Songs” is nearly perfect in the complicated three-part harmonies. It’s obvious why it was chosen for the vinyl bootleg.

Band On The Run” closes the show. The taper leaves the recording running for the entire encore set, so there is several minutes of cheering between “Hi Hi Hi” and “Soily.” In this interlude you can hear the taper’s girlfriends speaking about wetting her pants and how the cheering strokes the band’s egos. Hearing strange comments like this is almost as entertaining as the music itself since we get a glimpse into how the band was received on a certain night.

There are many documents from the Wings Over America tour that are better sounding than this and are worth having. However, this is an exciting concert in very good sound and is a good change of pace form the more commonly heard shows from this tour. The front design with the Venus And Mars motif is also aesthetically pleasing.
