On this day, The Beatles flew from Toronto to Montreal. The group arrived at Dorval Airport at 2:24 p.m. Despite the stormy weather, 5000 fans were waiting for them at the airport, most of whom were girls. There were also 120 officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on duty at the airport.
The Montreal police had received some dead threats targeting Ringo Starr.
On the cover of the 1967 album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” Paul McCartney is seen wearing an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) badge on his left arm. The origins of this badge have sparked much debate, with several theories attempting to explain its provenance.
In his book “The Beatles in Canada,” Piers Hemmingsen asserts that Corporal Glenn Hickingbottom presented four OPP badges to The Beatles on September 8, 1964, during their visit to Toronto. Another account suggests that an OPP officer in Toronto handed the badge to Paul McCartney in August 1965, when the band performed two shows at Maple Leaf Gardens. A third theory posits that the badge was gifted during The Beatles’ August 1966 visit to Canada.
This was the 1st concert played at Montreal Forum.
