Birmingham

Concert • By Paul McCartney • Part of the The Paul McCartney World Tour

Last updated on July 25, 2023

From the Irish Independent, January 3, 1990:

PAUL McCARTNEY was back delighting the fans last night with his first full live performance in Britain for 13 years. He played at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, a city which saw a near riot when the Beatles appeared in 1963. But after all those yesterdays the McCartney magic remains. Beaming from ear to ear and hardly looking his 49 years, McCartney bounded on stage to deafening applause and cheers. Fans had paid £18.50 or £16.50 for their tickets. which entitled them to a magical mystery tour of musical history, much of which had been written by Lennon and McCartney. In the Sixties the Fab Four played the most basic of instruments. Just the Beatles logo on Ringo’s Ludwig drum kit would throw an army of girls into convulsions. Now Paul’s musical companions are his wife Linda, who first went on the road with Wings in the Seventies, and four others brought together specially for the current world tour. Lights, amplification and instruments are carried in 13 articulated trucks.
