Spanish holidays for the McCartney family, and Wings
Mid-June to June 25, 1972
“Hotel In Benidorm” is an improvisation performed during a souncheck at Boulder on May 26, 1993 – during Paul McCartney’sNew World Tour. It has been released on Paul Is Live, the live album released in 1993.
“A Fine Day” was another of those soundcheck jams appearing on Paul Is Live; and both tracks were annotated with the tongue-in-cheek: “Tracks 22 and 24 were improvised at soundcheck and therefore may not be suitable for people of critical disposition“.
“Hotel In Benidorm” may have been a reminiscence of holidays Paul & band took in Benidorm in 1972 – here is what Denny Seiwell briefly said about those holidays:
Question: In june 1972, you were in Spain, near Benidorm to rehearse. Was it like holiday before the tour ? Was it fun ?
Denny Seiwell: right …dom…we went to a town near alicante i think…it was more vacation than anything, and yes it was fun…
Well, the traffic agent told me that everything was taken care of
But here am I, got the kids got the wife, nowhere to stay tonight
Yeah, the hotel in Benindorm, still be building it
Won't be finished soon, won't be finished soon
Yeah, the hotel in Benindorm, still buildin', buildin', buildin'
We go to the beach and we go for a swim
But sooner or later yeah
We're gonna need to lay our poor burden down
The hotel in Benindorm still isn't finished
I guess we gonna just have to hang around.
