Avant-garde identifies a genre of art, an experimental work of art, and the experimental artist who created the work of art, which usually is aesthetically innovative, whilst initially being ideologically unacceptable to the artistic establishment of the time.
Since the mid-1960s, alongside the music he is best known for, Paul McCartney has explored and experimented with various projects that could be classified as “avant-garde,” most of them in the music sphere, but not only.
PS: I can’t resist mentioning this quote from George Harrison, “avant-garde a clue.”
