In his book “With The Beatles,” photographer Dezo Hoffmann explained that he took this picture after hearing the news that “I Want To Hold Your Hand” was number 1 of the Billboard Hot 100. However, in the book “Heroes and Villains” by Genesis Publications, it is mentioned that the photo was taken by David Steen. The flag was borrowed from the US embassy in Paris and escorted by the US army to the hotel.
